The next day, Cordelia made sure to head home early. Victoria had already shown up, and she brought along a bunch of tasty treats.
Seeing her old friend make such an effort, Cordelia felt even worse about that slap. But saying sorry between close friends felt too formal.
All she asked was, "You're here?"
"Yep," Victoria replied, still a bit miffed.
"Trying to win Harold over?" Cordelia joked.
Victoria struggled to keep her pride intact. She was there to get back into Harold's good books and to make up with Cordelia. After all, they’d been friends for years.
"Can't I just come for you?" Victoria grumbled. "And about that kid, you'll regret it someday."
"We'll see about that. You don't have kids yet, but they're all angels, blank slates. What you put on them is what they become. I'm sure Blake will turn out great," Cordelia said confidently. From her time in the nurse's office, she could see the light in a child's eyes meant a lot, and it reassured her.
"Fine, I can't argue with you. But you better post about my visit on Facebook," Victoria said.
"Sure thing. Just to show Harold, right? Got it." Cordelia winked.
Ronan returned home, and the family sat down for a meal with Victoria, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
Callum and Jayson came out of their rooms. When Jayson saw the same aunt from last time, fear gripped his heart. Her presence reminded him of the previous quarrel and his own grievances. He clung to Cordelia's side, whispering, "Mommy, mommy."
Victoria noticed him and, swallowing her pride, said, "I'm sorry, kiddo. I misjudged you the other day."
