“Whatever I tell you tonight stays between us. I’m telling you this because I trust you. You’re not from Sentania anyway, so it doesn’t matter if you know.” The man’s voice turned husky. “Nadia is the king’s personal bodyguard, but there were rumors that she was the king’s lover.”

Justin’s mind went blank. “Lover?”

“I don’t know the details since I was quite young when she was sentenced to death. I heard about the royal secrets through people I came across while working here over the years.”

The man carried on. “Apparently, the king was deeply in love with Nadia, and they were intimate. She even carried the king’s baby. I don’t know why she was given the death penalty for treason. She fled and went missing for over thirty years. She might be dead somewhere out there.”

Justin turned pale, and the veins along his hand on the banister bulged.

The bombshell was quite a lot to process.

“If she was loyal to the king, why would she become a spy?”

“That’s the kicker. There have been rumors that the queen persecuted Nadia. Have you watched the soap operas surrounding royal families? There’s always drama in the family. Besides, Nadia became a personal bodyguard not long after the queen married the king, but she was pregnant ahead of the queen. It would be a disgrace to the queen. The queen wouldn’t put up with her. I’m not surprised if the queen had something to do with it.”

Justin felt churning in his stomach.

If Nadia was indeed Bella’s mother, and the rumors were right, then Bella’s mother had a dangerous past.
