The Mayor tried to reason with Grant. “But right now, Salvador Corporation is in the eye of the storm. If I force the project into your hands and the higher-ups decide to investigate, I won’t be able to escape responsibility!”
Grant said, “If they investigate, I might not be able to save your position, but I can assure you a lifetime of wealth. But if you choose to go against me, you won’t just lose your position. You’ll be left with nothing.”
Under the moonlight, Grant toyed with an exquisite antique teacup in his hand. His half-closed eyes radiated a chill. “You worked so hard to climb to where you are today. Do you really think you can stomach losing everything?”
After ending the call, he glanced at Jace, who stood motionless at his side. A faint smirk lifted his lips.
“Clarice is still in custody. It’ll take another two days before she’s released. The lab needs someone to oversee things. Jace, I’ll have to trouble you with this.”
Jace stiffened in surprise. “I failed in my task. You aren’t punishing me?”
Grant’s smile was unreadable. “It wasn’t your fault. You were ambushed. Otherwise, I know you wouldn’t have let me down.”
…
Leaving the villa, Jace slid into his car, only to realize his thin shirt was already drenched in cold sweat.
He had followed Grant for years, regarding him as an adopted parent, never once feeling fear.
But this time, hesitation, conflict, unease, and guilt twisted into something darker—an unspoken terror clawing at his chest.
What was he afraid of?
Was it the changes within him that he could no longer control—the fear that Grant might see through them?
Suppressing the discomfort gnawing at him, Jace lit a cigarette, inhaling deeply as he sped down the winding mountain roads.
He was not sure how long he had been driving when he suddenly realized something.
His gaze snapped to the rearview mirror to see a black luxury car tailing him.
Jace’s eyes narrowed. He floored the gas pedal, executing a flawless drift at the next turn. The tires screeched against the pavement, smoke curling into the night as he left the pursuer far behind.
……
Meanwhile, at Yara Park—
Mila paced anxiously around the room, staring at her phone’s tracker.

Please update regularly...
Thanks for bringing Ryan back. Totally missed him...
I am reading this book from last year. Its very long story but at start i find enjoyable.Still there is no closure , dragging the story and the writer is running out of ideas. Its frustrating that they don't upload chapters regularly....
If you are about to start reading this “ongoing” book….don’t. It’s a great read but mo regular updates and leaves you hanging. Took me months to get to chapter 2370 (this app only has it to chapter 2368….learned to search different links to read ahead a bit). These ongoing books are just not worth the time since their author (s) take days/weeks to upload new chapters. Again great sultry, long drawn out at times, but not worth the frustration of no new updates....
No update in 6 days!!! Really??? I’m about over this story and ready to move on, the wait is to long....
Pls update regularly or least let us know why it's taking so long...
Ok I was thinking last night. I really hope the author hasn’t been affected by hurricane Helene. Not sure where they are located but I hope everyone is safe...
It’s been 87 years since the update with only 2 chapters. 🙄...
