Brendon was startled and instinctively reached out to grasp the woman's arm. She appeared to have lost weight, her palm only feeling bones.
It had only been a few days since leaving the Stuart family, and she had already shed pounds. Her man didn't care enough! Brendon frowned, clearly displeased. Ranita held back her tears and took a few steps back. "I'm sorry."
Brendon remained silent but cast a sidelong glance at Caleb, causing Caleb to nervously touch his nose. Had he spoken to Ranita too much? Did Mr. Stuart have to be so harsh?
"Be more careful where you're going next time!"
"Oh..." Ranita softly replied as Shannon fluttered over like a butterfly and intimately linked arms with Brendon.
"Brendon, you're finally back!"
Holly also arrived but didn't dare cause a scene in front of Brendon; she just sneaked a glance at Ranita after speaking.
Ranita pursed her lips as if she hadn't noticed.
"I've been busy with work for a while." Brendon seemed unenthusiastic and spoke in a flat tone.
But Shannon was excited like a chirping oriole, "Brendon, hurry up and rest inside! The banquet will start soon!"
"Oh yeah! It's great that you invited Ranita to help out! Mrs. Cather and Mr. Semeraro are already inside. Without Ranita, we can't communicate properly."
Ranita remained silent. It was false that they couldn't communicate without her. They just wanted her there to witness their lovey-dovey behavior.
"Ranita, thank you for your hard work today!" Shannon sweetly smiled, looking radiant after dressing up nicely for the occasion.
This was what they meant by being in high spirits when good things happened.
