The moment Kylie thought about what Samuel had done to Owen before, her heart sank.
Her clear eyes stubbornly met Samuel's cold, sharp gaze. She tried to explain, saying, "I only came here to pick some Purple Frost Root. I didn't expect to run into Owen."
"It's almost midnight." Samuel sneered. "It seems like you two have a lot to talk about after reuniting after so long." He let out a mocking laugh. "Picking some Purple Frost Root? If you keep 'picking', are you going to end up in bed next?"
His face was as dark as the night sky. It was obvious he didn't believe a word she said.
For a split second, an absurd thought flashed through Kylie's mind—was Samuel acting like this because he thought he was catching her in the act?
Without wasting another second, Samuel turned and left, not sparing Kylie another glance. It was as if she were nothing more than disgusting trash that offended his eyes.
With a "bang", the ornately carved wooden door slammed shut.
Meanwhile, Logan had been outside in the courtyard, standing in the cool night breeze. He was deep in thought and nearly jumped out of his skin at the door being slammed shut.
He cautiously glanced at Samuel.
Samuel's face, usually unreadable, was now twisted in a fury that could burn the entire world down.
What the hell just happened?
Did he rush all the way here in the middle of the night only to be turned away? Or was it his first time, and he performed so badly that he got kicked out?
As Logan came up with his speculations, the intricately carved wooden door was suddenly pulled open again.
This time, Kylie and Owen stepped out together.
"Shit!" Logan couldn't help cursing. He blinked hard, thinking he might be seeing things.
But he wasn't mistaken—that was Owen.
"Damn it." Without hesitation, he switched on his flashlight and hurried to catch up with Samuel.
The more Samuel thought about what he saw, the angrier he got.
