Kylie packed up the Purple Frost Root she had gathered over the past two days and prepared to return to Seaville.
That day happened to be market day in Starlight Village.
The market was held once every seven days, and since this was a mountain village, many people took advantage of the occasion to stock up on food, clothes, and other necessities.
The streets were bustling with people, lively and crowded.
Kylie made her way through the market and glanced at Owen beside her. His face was bruised and swollen, marked with fresh injuries.
"Two more blocks, and you'll reach the station. You don't have to see me off. Go buy something before the vendors pack up," Kylie said. After a brief pause, she added, "If anything happens, call me."
"Alright." Owen understood her concern and smiled, though the movement pulled at his wounds and made him wince.
He raised a hand and ruffled Kylie's hair. "I already took a beating—nothing else is going to happen." His voice was warm and gentle. "If it's making you unhappy, let go. Don't burden yourself with thoughts of it."
"You think I should give up too?" Kylie asked.
Owen replied, "Whether it's family background, looks, or talent, Mr. Vance is undoubtedly a top-tier bachelor. He doesn't have any bad habits either. But the Vance family won't accept you, and if he treats you badly, marrying him will only make your life miserable."
Kylie smiled faintly. "I've come this far. I don't want to give up."
If she couldn't warm his heart, then she would simply leave.
But she kept that thought to herself.
Still… A man like Samuel wasn't someone she could simply walk away from.
"Alright. Nothing lasts forever," Kylie said, waving him off. "Go buy your things. I'm leaving. Annoy Mr. Musk for me while I'm gone."
"I'll wait until you get on the bus." Owen insisted.
"Fine." Upon seeing his resolve, Kylie didn't argue. The station was just ahead anyway.
Suddenly, a loud crash erupted in the distance.
Kylie and Owen immediately turned toward the sound.
Apparently, a three-wheeled cart had collided with an electric scooter.
