"Yes," Logan answered. Then he added, "Aside from Ms. Clark, we've arranged for caregivers to go on a 24-hour rotation."
"Good," Samuel calmly replied, though a layer of frost seemed to settle over his handsome face. His sharp eyes narrowed slightly as he continued, "Any updates on the crash?"
"No progress yet," Logan carefully said.
In a city like Seaville, the fact that their people couldn't dig anything up meant one thing—the person behind it had come prepared and covered their tracks well.
"Keep a close eye on the driver. You're coming with me to meet him." Samuel's words came out slow and flat, but each one carried a razor-sharp chill.
"Yes, Mr. Vance!" Logan stiffened. "We've already got someone tailing him, but do you really need to step foot in a place like that? It's not worth getting your hands dirty."
Samuel didn't respond. Once he'd made up his mind, there was no changing it.
As his assistant, Logan knew his job wasn't to question—it was to follow orders. So, he shut up.
Technically, Samuel didn't need to go to the prison himself. But this time, his irritation was boiling over. He'd dealt with things like this before but never had anything rattled him like this one.
Logan began, "Mr. Jones has already obtained the driver's financial details. He's from Dasovia, and his family rents public housing here in Seaville. The most valuable thing he owns is that delivery truck. Aside from some regular expenses and wages, there were no traces of any large transactions.
"His wife and kid are currently missing. Early signs point to an abduction. So, yeah... Some of what he said might be true."
…
Later that day, Samuel headed to a prison on the outskirts of the city.
The driver, Dominic Butler, had no idea he'd be thrown in so quickly.
That was when he finally realized he'd pissed off someone way, way out of his league.
