"Ms. Clark, we're just following protocol here. Please don't make things difficult for us," the guard firmly said, still blocking her way.
"And what if I want to make things difficult?" Kylie coldly replied. "I'm seeing him today. That's that."
Quickly, she pulled out her phone and dialed for Samuel.
As soon as the call connected, she got straight to the point. "Did you talk to the prison guards and have them block me from seeing the driver?"
"Are you at the prison right now?" Samuel asked instead of answering.
"Yes," she said, growing impatient. "Did you tell them not to let me see him or not?"
"No," he flatly said. He frowned, clearly annoyed by her tone. Then, he lowered his tone and said, "Has no one ever taught you that when you're asking for something, maybe you should try acting like you actually need it?"
"I guess I missed that lesson," Kylie shot back. "So tell me, what kind of attitude should I have to please you today?"
Samuel could practically picture Kylie with her sharp attitude and chin held high.
Somehow, it both irritated and amused him at the same time. He let out a dry chuckle. "Wait there. I'll make the call."
The call hadn't even ended when, suddenly, chaos erupted from the guards' office.
"Move, move, move! Inmate 3025's having a medical emergency. Call an ambulance, now!"
A wave of dread washed over Kylie.
She reached out and grabbed the nearest guard by the arm and urgently said, "Inmate 3025—is that the truck driver who came in a few days ago?"
The guard froze, frowning. "Who are you?"
"I said—" her voice was sharp and commanding, "Is 3025, Dominic, from the hit-and-run or not?"
The force behind her presence was undeniable, and it stopped the guard cold.
