Chapter 11
Chapter 11
“What did you say?”
Arnold’s face turned pale as heroared, “Gideon was crippled by Eric? How did this happen? Did you instigate it?”
Feeling aggrieved, Elara protested, “Dad, it has nothing to do with me! Gideon was too arrogant. He hit Eric, so Eric brought a bunch of his men to the bar. I don’t know what happened after that, but I’m sure Gideon didn’t come out unscathed. He was probably crippled.”
“Why didn’t you take Gideon with you when you ran? He’s your husband! How could you leave him there to be beaten up and turned into a cripple? How could I have such cold–blooded daughter?”
“Dad, I don’t love Gideon, and he’s not good enough for me. Stop calling him my husband. Now that he’s crippled, I won’t spend my life with a cripple. I’ll divorce him immediately!”
“You insolent girl!”
Arnold was so furious that he slapped Elara across the face
After striking her, Arnold regretted it instantly. He had never hit her before–not even once. This was the first time.
Elara stood there stunned. Tears welled up in her eyes. Sobbing, she ran out of the villa.
“Ella!”
Arnold felt a headache coming on.
Outside, Elara ran right into Gideon.
“Ouch! Who goes there? Can’t you see where you’re–Gideon! Why are you here?”
Elara was dumbfounded.
Gideon shrugged. “Why wouldn’t I be here? I’m the Seymour family’s son–in–law, right? I believe I have the right to come back here, don’t I?”
“Gideon!”
Arnold heard the commotion and rushed out.
He examined Gideon from head to toe, making sure he was unscathed before sighing with relief.
“Gideon, Elara said Eric had crippled you! I was worried sick. Thank goodness you’re alright.”
“Sorry to make you worry, Dad.”
Seeing Arnold’s concerned expression and the red mark on Elara’s face, Gideon began to piece together what had happened. A faint warmth spread through his heart,
Elara, still in disbelief, said, “This is impossible! Eric had so many men with him. They had you cornered in the private room. How did you manage to escape?”
Gideon responded calmly, “They were just a bunch of useless people. I knocked them down and walked out.”
“What? You’re telling me you single–handedly took on over a dozen men? Are you kidding me? Do you think you’re some kind of war hero?”
“Feel free to choose whether or not you believe me,” Gideon said. He couldn’t be bothered to explain further.

Chapter 11
Arnold led him inside the house, and Elara followed them in
Gideon, I’m not trying to lecture you, but the Gross family has grown quite powerful in recent years. Since you hit Eric, they won’t take this matter lightly,” Arnold warned. “But don’t worry. You’re my son–in–law. I won’t stand by and do nothing.
“For the time being, you can either lay low and avoid drawing attention, or you can come to work with me. That way, I can keep you safe.”
“What’s the matter? Are you thinking about resisting? That only proves your guilt. Seize him, men!”
Just as Gideon prepared to defend himself, a sharp voice rang out, “What’s going on here?”
The security guards parted, revealing a tall woman with an oval face, slender brows, and fair, radiant skin. She carried herself with an air of nobility, and she was more beautiful than female celebrities.
“Ms. Avila!”
The security chief greeted her. “This man claims Mr. Avila Senior sent him to see you.”
“Grandpa?” Rachel froze for a moment, her expression changing as she turned her gaze sharply to Gideon.
Too lazy to speak, Gideon produced the ring Simon had given him, holding it up for her to see.
Rachel’s eyes widened in shock. She brushed off the security team. “Everyone, leave. Now.”
The security chief looked confused but complied, retreating with his men.
“Come with me,” Rachel instructed, leading Gideon to the top floor and into the chairperson’s office. 1
Gideon glanced around the large office and chuckled. “The Avilas truly are the wealthiest family around. You really know how to enjoy yourself. Turning your office into a home, you’re quite the workaholic, huh?”
Rachel glared at him. “That ring belonged to my grandfather. I’d recognize it anywhere. Where did you get it? Where is he?”
Without a word, Gideon tossed her a sealed letter. “See for yourself!”
Rachel’s hands trembled as she tore open the envelope. Her breath hitched as she read the letter inside, and despite being a strong, independent businesswoman, she teared up.
Her parents had died when she was young, and Simon raised her. His disappearance two years ago had devastated her, though she had no choice but to keep going, shouldering the burden of the Avila family and its company, Avila Group.
Alas, in spite of all her efforts, the Avila family and its company declined, and they lost their title as the wealthiest family in Verdura.
Throughout the last two years, Rachel had used extensive resources to look for Simon, but she found no trace of him. She had feared he was dead, but now, she knew he was alive.
Chapter 11
The handwriting in the letter was unmistakably his.
After composing herself, Rachel looked at Gideon with awe
Simon hadn’t mentioned the skills Gideon possessed, but he had made one thing clear. Gideon was the key to saving the Avilas.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Gideon asked.
“I remember now. You’re the son of the Snow family, aren’t you?” 1
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Are you married?”
Gideon blinked in confusion. However, before he could say anything, Rachel bit her lip and stunned him with her next words.
“What do you think of me? Would you consider taking me as your wife? If you agree to it, we can get our marriage registered today.”
