The Forgotten Titan's Resurgence novel Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Silence fell as the room filled with an awkward tension.

Sporting an unpleasant expression, Matthew clutched the saucer without knowing whether to put it away or toss it in the trash.

“What kind of heinous trick did you pull to make the pattern disappear, Gideon?” Elara questioned in fury.

Scoffing, Gideon replied, “The pattern was made with a special kind of ink that is hard to remove, but it’s possible to do so with the help of heat and alcohol. It’s that simple.”

However, Elara didn’t let up. “How did you know it could disappear with the combination of heat and alcohol? I get the feeling that you wanted to ruin the saucer on purpose! Apologize to Matthew at once, or else, you’ll have to pay for his loss!”

Gideon’s expression turned grim. Why was Elara being so unreasonable and saying such ridiculous things? Was it simply because Matthew was her bosom friend?

Alas, those words sounded disgusting to his ears. He was repulsed by them.

At that very moment, Matthew chimed in with a smile, “Calm down, Ella. Since Gideon could tell it was a fake, it meant he knew what he was talking about. I respect that. It’s just 100 thousand dollars. It’s not a big deal.”

“He’s just a farmer. What does he know about antiques?” Elara said scathingly. “He merely got lucky.”

“Either way, he has helped me verify that it’s a fake. I should thank him. Come. Allow me to offer you a toast, Gideon.”

Matthew raised his glass, but Gideon ignored him, which triggered another outburst from Elara.

“Are you blind, Gideon? Matthew is offering you a toast, and yet, you’re not even appreciating his gesture!”

Sneering, Gideon replied, “Sorry, but he’s not qualified to drink with me.”

“What did you say?” Elara screeched in

outrage.

The other people in the room were furious, too.

Someone mocked, “Pardon me for being frank, but do you still think you’re the same Gideon Snow you once were? You’re nothing more than a penniless beggar now.”

A woman chimed in jeeringly, “You have no self–awareness at all, huh? Here’s a word of advice for you. You’d better do a good job of making it up to Matthew. Maybe he’ll be pleased with your performance and decide to throw a bone your way by offering the Snows a few contracts.”

“Get on your feet and toast him, Gideon!” Elara demanded

Even someone as unaffected by external triggers as Gideon was riled up by their comments. He was just about to speak when Matthew jumped in to smooth things over.

“Cut it out, guys. Gideon just came back to Goldspire. He hasn’t adjusted yet. It’s fine. I’ll down the glass of wine first as a courtesy to him.”

Elara sat down and shot Gideon a glare before snapping coldly, “See that? Matthew is such a thoughtful and magnanimous person. I’m so disappointed in you, Gideon, thought you’d at least know how to act with propriety. I didn’t expect you to be such a narrow–minded man!

“Not only did you hit Eric and offend the Grosses, but now, you’re even offending the Carters! Are you just that

full of yourself, or do you think the Snows don’t have enough on their plate already?

“I advise you to hurry up and apologize to Matthew. Don’t think my family is going to clean up your mess for you. That’s not going to happen!”

After Elara gave her speech, Gitleon smirked and picked up wine glass.

Seeing that, she nodded and said, “See? That wasn’t so hard, was it? You’d better keep a humble attitude–the more humble, the better.”

However, Gideon held the wine glass out in front of her.

Confused, she asked, “Why are you giving it to me? What’s the meaning of this?”

“Since you’re my wife, it’s not wrong for me to ask you to apologize on my behalf, right? Plus, I’m sure Matthew is more than happy to drink with you, isn’t he?” Gideon remarked with an unreadable smile, but his tone was laced with teasing amusement that made it sound like he was mocking her.

Elara’s cheeks turned scarlet, and she puffed them out angrily.

Matthew, who noticed everything, sneered to himself before shooting his friend a look. His friend got the hint and took a photo before uploading it online, even making sure to tag the location.

News traveled fast among the scions in Goldspire. Eric and his men were on the way to the Snow residence when he received word that Gideon was at Twilight Bar, so he immediately rushed over.
