Chapter 227
She stood in Sam’s way.
But the more she tried to stop him, the more Sam found it strange. In the end, he simply pushed her away and strode toward the huge truck.
The truck had crashed into the rest area built outside the villa grounds. The front of the truck was caved in, but there wasn’t much damage to it otherwise. The onlookers, afraid that the driver would try to get away with a hit–and–run, were keeping him where he was.
“Are we sure he was drinking and driving?”
“He smells so heavily of booze. He’s definitely drunk.”
“What does he think he’s doing? It’s a good thing it’s office hours. Imagine how many passersby and children there would be after office and school hours. People like this are so scary!”
“Call the police.”
The driver was curled up on the ground. He didn’t say a word or otherwise react at all, simply allowing the surrounding people to continue accusing him.
Sam walked over and grabbed the driver’s collar. He scolded, “Do you even know how to dr–why is it you?”
He looked reflexively at his phone, asking in confusion, “Miss, did you ask me to come take a look at the driver because you wanted me to know that it’s my brother -in–law?”
Before Madison could speak, Laura rushed over. She proceeded to punch her ex–husband over and over. “Why is it you? What exactly were you planning to do? First, you cheated on me. Now, you want to kill me?” Laura’s ex–husband, Larry Barrows, simply allowed his ex–wife to hurl abuse at him. His expression was calm. Madison’s voice came through the phone. “Call the police! This isn’t a simple accident but premeditated murder.” “What?” Sam was stunned. “Premeditated murder? Against who? Heather?”

He hurriedly pulled Heather to him, looking around wildly. It was as if he viewed everyone around as a potential criminal.
“Can you help me find the mastermind, miss? I can’t allow Heather to be in danger.”
“The mastermind is right under your nose,” Madison stated simply.
Sam turned to look at Larry. He was so angry he raised his fist, ready to hit the man.
Madison interrupted him, “It’s not him.”
“Then who is it?”
Just as the question left his lips, Sam turned slowly to look at Laura, disbelief in his eyes.
“Y–You got someone to kill your sister. She’s your biological sister!”
Laura shook her head wildly. “It’s not me. Why are you suspecting me just because of a few words from a stranger, Sam? We’re family.” Sam held Heather’s hands tightly. “What do you mean, we’re family? If not for your sister, I wouldn’t even know who you are.”
Laura turned to look at Heather, crying. “Heather, you believe me, right? How could I try to kill you? I’m your sister!”
Heather looked back and forth between Sam and Laura, hesitation on her face.
“You have to believe me, dear. No matter what she has told you, you can’t trust her.”
“No, you have to believe me, Heather. Sam… Shouldn’t you already be aware of what kind of person he is? How many troublemaking women have you had to handle for him throughout these years? I’m your sister!”
Both Sam and Laura stared at Heather.
Meanwhile, Heather’s heart was in turmoil.
