"Big brother, you're back?"
The man Evelyn called big brother touched her head lovingly. "Yes, I just came back from a business trip. Why? Did you miss me?"
"Of course I do. I misses you as well. She keeps asking me when you'll be back..."
Hearing such a loving conversation, Ellie's face darkened but she made no interruptions though.
No matter how nice her words sounded, she was not one of the Smith family. There was no place for her to stay.
Just as she was about to leave, Charles stopped her.
"Wait a minute. You want to leave without even saying hello to me?"
Squinting at her slender back, the man stopped her with a subtle tone.
"Big brother."
Ellie turned around with an awkward expression on her face and greeted him respectfully.
Charles turned to Evelyn. "Evelyn, you could visit the Old Master first. I have something to say to Ellie."
"Got it, brother."
A glint of gloat flashed in Evelyn's eyes.
Her big brother was surely about to teach that bitch a good lesson. She was no doubt very happy to see it happen. Evelyn left them.
"Come here."
Charles said in a commanding tone. He walked into the room and displeasedly noticed that Ellie did not follow.
Now they were both in the room. He untied a few buttons on his shirt and showed his strong chest.
That was a strong hint of sex appeal that she couldn't ignore. Ellie lowered her head and avoided his gaze.
"What are you lowering your head for? Are you guilty? Did you seduce someone when I wasn't around?"
The man stared at the woman in front of him, smiling. But it's not a true smile.
Ellie felt sad hearing his words.
Charles treated her well at first after she had been adopted by the Smith family. He was so kind, taking care of her as if she was his own sister. That was undoubtedly the happiest day of her life.
Things changed when the Old Master suggested, in return for her saving his own life, that Charles should marry her.
Charles refused, because he already had a girlfriend. The suggestion was temporarily put aside.
The rest of the Smith family began to keep a wary eye on her ever since, convinced that she was greedy for the family's property.
Evelyn mentioned her in front of Charles's girlfriend, calling it a reminder... This lead to so many conflicts between them but only Ellie was blamed.
To remove their doubts, Ellie chose to work in the public relations department, which had the least power in the company. She depended on herself and finally managed to make some achievements. But the rumor just wouldn't let her go. People said that she succeeded only because she flirted with her clients and the only reason she worked hard is that she needed her success to please the Old Master.
It was even harder for her to defend herself when the man from Evelyn's blind date fell in love with her at first sight and relentlessly asked for her love.
Even Charles no longer trusted her.
"I didn't, big brother. I..."
"Forget it, I'm not interested. All I want to say is that nominally you are still a member of the Smith family. What you do concerns the family's honor. So, don't do anything that will affect us and don't ever give a thought of fighting with Evelyn. You know the result."
Charles interrupted her.
The thought of her flirting with those men in commercial world when he was not here made him angry.
And his words were no longer under control.
The expression on Ellie's changed.
But she didn't say anything in the end.
"I see."
What else could she say? She was just an orphan and an outsider. There was no point in saying anything.
Seeing Ellie suddenly drooped, Charles got upset for no reason. "Get out."
Ellie left.
Evelyn waited outside, rolling her eyes provocatively at her. "How does that feel? My brother taught you a lesson, huh? Tomorrow, you go to Meredith and make things clear for me."
