Chapter 28 

“After all the sacrifices, the sleepless nights, and the dedication, how could someone like Ethan end up in prison? How is this fair?” 

“Should we take this as a warning sign? Should we start thinking about quitting our jobs. and going back to simpler lives?” 

If Ethan, who had done so much good, could be arrested, they feared an even worse fate if they did not pack up and resign! 

At that thought, many of the officials could feel their convictions wavering. Living an ordinary life would surely be better than spending the rest of their lives in prison. 

Having heard those comments, Stephen panicked and shouted, “Shut up, all of you! This is 

nonsense. 

“Ethan’s imprisonment is based on solid evidence.” 

Someone asked quietly, “Then where’s the evidence?” 

Stephen fell silent. He was left exposed and speechless. 

He realized he had been too hasty. If the investigation had been more thorough, this would not have happened. 

Suddenly, he remembered something crucial. When they started searching the suitcases, he had recorded a video for George, who was supposed to send this video to the federal government to make an example of Ethan. 

However, the suitcases were not filled with embezzled money. Instead, they contained thank–you letters from various regions and fan mail from readers. If the federal government were to find out about that, it would be a disaster! 

With that realization, he quickly took out his phone and frantically dialed George’s number. 

“The number you’re calling is busy. Please try again later…” 

Stephen could not get through! 

Then, his whole body tensed up, panic setting in. Any other time would be fine, but not now! If he could not reach Stephen now, the consequences could be disastrous! 

Meanwhile, George had gotten through to the federal government, and the person on the other side of the phone was none other than Stephen’s father, Simon Quinn. 

Simon knew George. After all, his son was about to take office in George’s province and marry into the Lowe family. 

He was quite satisfied with George and his future daughter–in–law, Rachel Lowe. Although

they did not have a high status, they held control over the most developed province of Draconia. As long as nothing went wrong, they would surely rise to prominence in the future, possibly getting a seat in the cabinet. 

During their conversation, George explained what Stephen had done to “expose” Ethan. 

Simon was pleased to hear that his son had arrested a corrupt official who had embezzled billions and was on the verge of searching his house. Catching someone who had embezzled over 100 million dollars would be of great service to the country. 

“There’s a video too? Send it over right away. I’ll show it to those old fogies.” 

The Riveria matter was a prized territory, and many in the federal government had their eyes on it, hoping to get involved and claim some credit when Riveria became more developed in the future. 

Yet, now that it had been handed to Stephen to manage, all the potential benefits would surely go to the Quinns. 

Envy naturally stirred among the federal government officials. They often told Simon that Stephen was not the right person to manage Riveria and should be brought back. However, Simon refused to hear any of it.
