The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 142

I tried to appeal to his conscience.

He looked to be around my age and should also have children.

"I don't know how old you are, but you must have your reasons for doing this, and you probably have children as well. Think about your kids and give my son back to me."

I watched as his brows slowly relaxed and the corner of his mouth twitched. I continued to persuade him.

"I'll have my assistant prepare the money right now. You just put the knife down."

"You want me to put the knife down? Then you'll catch me."

I saw his gaze grow agitated again, and I almost wanted to slap myself.

Lorraine was beside me. When she saw his agitated look, she said, "We can also be your hostages. You can do whatever you want as long as you don't hurt the child."

I glanced at Lorraine. She was frowning, appearing more nervous than Yvonne, who was the mother.

"I'll prepare a car for you." I looked at the man as I tried to satisfy all his requests. "Then, you can leave."

Hearing me say that, the man moved the knife away from Jonas' body.

"Faster."

"I'll prepare it for you immediately."

The man finally let his guard down.

Murphy was quick as well, and in less than 20 minutes, he had withdrawn the money from the bank.

"This is enough for you to live on."

"Open it and show me."

I opened the case as he asked. I saw his eyes light up, but his expression grew increasingly ugly.

"I'll deliver the money to you, and you give me the child back." I walked toward him with the money in hand, but he stopped me.

"Let her come."

His gaze fell on Lorraine.

"She's a woman..."

"Let her come."

This man was clever. He knew he couldn't overpower me, so he had Lorraine deliver it.

"Let's change it to someone else."
