Gerald's expression was all twisted at that point. He looked like he wanted to rip Lorraine into shreds.
I stepped forward to stop him from whatever he planned to do to my wife.
"What makes you think you can do whatever you want on my turf, huh?"
At that, I waved my hand. Murphy quickly dragged Gerald out of my office.
Lorraine's eyes were all red by then. She did her best to not let her tears fall from her eyes.
"It's fine. I'm here now." I pulled her into my arms before patting her on the back soothingly.
"I didn't expect my dad to come here."
The reason why Lorraine didn't tell Gerald she was married was because she feared that he would cause a ruckus. To think that it still happened in the end…
"This isn't your fault." I rested my chin on the crown of Lorraine's head.
This time, I managed to resolve the issue. I was just worried that Gerald might end up visiting the Joplin residence.
I wasn't afraid of anything else. But if Grandma were to find out about Gerald's purpose, she'd have a reason to break me and Lorraine up.
"Cole, I'm a little worried that word of this incident might get out."
Lorraine knew Gerald far too well. This wouldn't be the last time he caused such a ruckus.
"Don't worry. I won't let him find you."
After appeasing her, I told her to rest in my office.
This incident must have spread throughout the company by now. If she were to get back to work, she'd definitely get targeted by her colleagues.
Some time later, I gazed at the person Murphy had brought into the meeting room. The newcomer looked all filthy and shabby, as though he had just been fished out of a dumpster.
"Since when did the almighty Chad Sommerton look this wretched?"
Chad had a bitter look on his face. I watched as he shook the bodyguards' hands off him before he lunged at me.
"Cole Joplin, don't think you're influential enough to do whatever you want in this city! You married Lorraine without even informing my father in advance! That's kidnapping!"
"Is that so?"
I raised my chin, noting the hatred and resentment in Chad's eyes.
"What if I tell you that your father rejected the money I offered him?"
As expected, Chad's complexion became deathly pale. The resentment in his eyes was quickly replaced by disbelief.
