Lorraine wasn't in the best condition to discuss business right now. I carefully noted Yvonne's requirements, double-checked them, and asked Murphy to send her off.
Before leaving, she stopped at the doorway, her grip tightening slightly on the doorknob. "Marrying Lorraine is your choice, and I can't control that."
I raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to continue.
"But I won't let Jonas continue staying with you. See you in court," she said, her face full of disdain. Standing frozen in place, I rubbed my chin, not thinking much of her words.
…
Inside the ward, Jonas had curled up and fallen asleep on a nearby bed without me noticing. According to psychology, his posture was a sign of insecurity.
"His mind is always burdened by his thoughts. Who knows what's in that head of his?" I asked.
Lorraine raised a finger to her lips. "Keep your voice down. He's a light sleeper."
Even the slightest noise could wake him up.
"What did you talk to him about?" I frowned as I recalled Yvonne's parting words.
"I asked him about school."
"Did he tell you anything?" Jonas' thoughts had become more difficult to read lately. Although his psychological evaluation showed no warning signs, he had grown increasingly quiet.
"He said a few kids have been teasing him about not having a dad. But I don't think that's what's truly upsetting him." Lorraine was hesitant to speak further.
"If there's something on your mind, just say it." I never messed around when it came to Jonas.
