The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 193

After Lorraine was discharged from the hospital, she threw herself into working on the fashion ad, completely forgetting that Sam was still locked up.

Even though we lived under the same roof, I couldn't seem to catch a moment alone with her.

"Still busy?"

I wiped my damp hair absently, closing her laptop.

"Jonas went to see Grandma today."

I had always been mindful of Lorraine's feelings, so I hadn't pushed further. We had been married for so long, and we couldn't keep living like celibate priests forever.

"I'm almost done..."

I didn't let her finish before I gently lifted her chin. "Lorraine, don't you think it's time to think about us?"

Her face flushed bright red, her eyes darting away as she avoided facing the issue.

"You can't avoid it forever."

I pulled her into my arms with practiced ease, my fingers—still aching from before—tracing slow circles on her shoulder. It was such a small, simple gesture, yet she trembled under my touch.

I could feel the subtle shifts in her body. When two people shared mutual desire, even the tiniest movements could ignite a spark into flames.

I watched her squint, her breath growing a little quicker.

"Lorraine, can't you—"

The sharp ring of the phone shattered the ambiguous atmosphere. I cursed under my breath, irritated as I glanced at the phone vibrating on the table.

"Who is it?"

My voice was rough, and I cleared my throat before adding, "You should answer it."

"Should I decline the call?" Lorraine seemed hesitant, clearly worried about upsetting me. She asked carefully, almost like she was treading on eggshells.

"No. Anyone calling at this time must have an urgent reason."

I knew my expression probably didn't look too good, so I turned away. "We'll continue this next time."

Some moments couldn't be forced. Once interrupted, it was hard for Lorraine to get back into the right frame of mind. I didn't mind, but it was her first time, and I wanted it to be a good memory for her.
