The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 208

As I skimmed through the contract, I realized there weren't any issues.

"How did my family react?"

Yvonne's interview had tarnished my reputation. Coupled with the news of my marriage to Lorraine spreading, more people began to criticize me.

She even had a fan club. It was truly laughable.

"Mrs. Joplin Senior urges you to return when you have time," Murphy said.

I hadn't been back to the Joplin residence for almost a month. It was about time.

Before I got off work, I called Lorraine. Her palms were drenched in sweat throughout the entire car ride to the Joplin residence.

"Don't be nervous," I said.

It wasn't our first time meeting Grandma, after all.

"I'm just worried that they'll blame you," Lorraine said, well aware that most people didn't approve of our marriage.

Just thinking about how Grandma would look at her sent a shiver down her spine. Drawing in a deep breath, she forced herself to calm down.

When we arrived, Lorraine pulled out the gift she had prepared.

The moment Grandma saw her, her face fell. "Didn't I specifically ask you to come alone?"

"I'm married, after all." I turned toward Lorraine, signaling her to present the gift.

"Mrs. Joplin Senior, this is for you."

Grandma ignored her. "It's our money, anyway."

"Grandma, Lorraine has never spent my money. Please don't say that," I said.

The more I tried to ease the tension between them, the more I made things worse. I shot a helpless look at Lorraine, but fortunately, she didn't mind. She sat in a corner while I had to keep Grandma company.

Grandma took my hand, her eyes full of silent reproach. Though it was subtle, her presence was still imposing.

"I heard the company has been struggling lately," she began.
