The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 224

"Don't worry. I care about staying alive very much." Lorraine thumped her chest confidently, her furrowed brows slowly relaxing.

I pulled her into my arms and kissed her. "I'll protect you."

I secretly swore on my life that I was not going to let Lorraine get hurt.

The day before I left, Jonas looked sad. "Daddy, why must you go to such a dangerous place? Why is Ms. Sommerton going too?"

The boys had gotten used to the rhythm and environment of their new school. The court case with Yvonne had to be delayed because of my business trip. I would have to deal with it only when I returned.

"I have some emergency matters to handle. Ms. Sommerton will be helping me."

"But then, it'll only be me and Xavier left at home."

Xavier was sleeping on the other side of the bed. He snickered and asked, "Are you scared?"

Jonas' face flushed as he replied in a huff, "I'm just worried about Daddy. I'm not scared."

"There's nothing to be worried about. A man should fight for the people they love," Xavier said like a little adult.

I realized that he wasn't as hostile toward me in the past few days. Even if his tone was still harsh, at least he wasn't calling me by my name anymore.

Could this be considered an improvement?

I patted Xavier on the head. "You're right. A man should fight for the people they love. Both of you are the people I love, so I'm going to East Harbor for you two. Will you two promise to be good at home?"

Jonas looked at me innocently. "Ms. Sommerton is going with you too. Does that mean she loves us too?"

Jonas' emotions had been much better recently, but he was still subconsciously craving for approval from others. I knew that this was due to the lack of his mother in his life. Lorraine would give him all the love that he needed.
