The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 257

When I brought Jonas out, his fever was so hot it could almost burn someone. His cheeks were flushed red, and he was completely unconscious.

Who could be so cruel to harm a child like this?

By the time I rushed Jonas to the hospital, Lorraine was already waiting at the entrance.

"Did you find out who did this?" she asked.

I replied, "I've already asked Murphy to check the surveillance footage."

Whether this was a prank or if it was intentional, I wouldn't let whoever did this get away with it.

Less than half an hour later, Murphy called to say he had identified the kids who were responsible for the prank. From the footage, they were about the same age as Xavier.

"They have no grudges against Jonas, so why…" I wondered.

My musing was interrupted when one of the kids said in the video, "We're just helping Xavier. You'll never be better than him."

Xavier ordered them to do this?

They were brothers. I knew that Xavier had an unruly and stubborn personality. With him being a popular young star nowadays, he had likely become more arrogant.

I could understand anything else, even if he was temperamental or dissatisfied.

But he could not harm his own brother.

"Stay here with Jonas. Call me immediately if he wakes up," I instructed.

"Where are you going?" Lorraine hurriedly followed me.

She placed a hand on my shoulder. "Maybe this is all just a misunderstanding. You saw it too. Xavier wasn't there."

Lorraine wasn't ready to believe the kids' words. Just because they did it to help Xavier didn't mean that Xavier was the one behind it.

"You should investigate things clearly beforehand. Xavier's also a child. He won't be able to stand your questioning," Lorraine added.

"No matter what, he definitely knows something," I responded.
