This time, the meal was booked at a newly opened restaurant on the outskirts of the city. While there weren't many patrons, it was said to have good food.
It was Xavier's first visit here, but Jared seemed very familiar with the place.
Xavier followed Jared to the door of a rather secluded private room. Even as they stood outside, Xavier could hear some loud and cheerful sounds inside.
He frowned as he clung tightly to Yvonne's hand. He kept feeling that something was wrong with this meal.
However, Yvonne didn't sense anything unusual. She smiled brightly as Jared knocked on the door. After that, a man with a large belly walked out.
His gaze roamed over everyone there, and it lingered particularly long on Xavier's face. Regardless of how oblivious Yvonne could be, even she noticed something wrong about his gaze.
She held Xavier tightly and let out a somewhat helpless sigh. "I'm so sorry. My son hasn't been well the past few days."
The man stepped aside and gestured for them to enter after he heard that.
"What's there to feel sorry about? Everyone feels unwell from time to time," he said in a casual manner. Yet it felt very strange when combined with his gaze.
For the first time, Yvonne started to doubt Jared's intentions. She looked at those businessmen interacting with Jared and hesitated for a moment before she shook her head.
How could Jared harm them? She was just overthinking it.
Yvonne led Xavier to the seat that was prepared for them. However, Xavier felt incredibly uncomfortable.
He cleared his throat and leaned closer to Yvonne before he whispered, "Mommy, these people are so weird. Why does that man keep staring at me?"
Children were often very sensitive, especially with these things.
