The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 285

Grandma only felt at ease after Dad's reassurances.

Before she headed upstairs, she glanced at Chris. She seemed to want to say something, but she remained silent in the end.

Only once Grandma left did Dad breathe a sigh of relief.

Chris knew his father genuinely cared for him. However, hearing that Grandma wanted me back left a heavy weight on his chest that wouldn't go away.

"Dad, are you really going to convince Cole to come back like what Grandma asked?" he asked.

He had waited so long for me to leave. How could he let Dad just bring me back?

Hearing that, Dad had a serious expression. "Don't worry, I won't let him threaten your position. But I still need to keep up appearances. I can't let your grandmother realize I'm not trying to bring him back."

If Grandma got angry and I took advantage of the situation, things would just get harder.

Chris finally felt at ease with Dad's promise. "Dad, don't worry. I'll manage the company well and make you proud."

At Joplin Group, Chris greeted everyone in a friendly manner on his first day as general manager. He put in a lot of effort but still failed to get anyone in the company to respect him.

"When is Mr. Cole coming back? I still have a proposal I need him to review."

"It should be soon. This new guy doesn't seem to know anything. I heard he's supposed to be Mr. Cole's younger brother. I wonder if that's true."

"Why don't you ask Lorraine? Isn't she Mr. Cole's wife?"

The design department was even noisier than the cafeteria at lunchtime. Lorraine watched as some colleagues she was familiar with inched closer. In the end, she waved them over in exasperation.

"Just ask if you have any questions. I'll tell you if I know the answer," she said.
