The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 302

Was that it?

I spread my hands, recalling that I had planned to talk to Jonas after everyone left the hospital. He had always been a sensitive boy, after all. Now that I had a child, he would surely let his thoughts overwhelm him.

Still, I hadn't expected Lorraine to placate him so easily. It was great. It saved me the effort.

Patting the back of Jonas' hand, I softened my voice and said, "Don't worry, Jonas. Even though I have another child now, I'll still love you."

"You won't visit the baby every day and ignore me, will you?"

Children feared neglect from their parents. As Jonas' mother, Yvonne had already failed her part in his life, so I couldn't afford to make him think that I was also neglecting him.

"Don't worry," I said. "I'll never abandon you."

Lorraine rubbed her eyes. She got emotional easily after finding out she was pregnant.

"Jonas, I'll also treat you the same."

As she reassured Jonas, I finally sighed in relief when I saw his frown subside.

It wasn't until after we comforted Jonas that I remembered Xavier and Yvonne were still in the ward. I still hadn't settled the score with Yvonne for pushing Lorraine.

I glanced around, yet there was no sign of them.

Jonas realized my intention and began softly, "They already went back."

Pointing toward the door, he continued, "Xavier said that since you have a baby now, you won't care about us anymore. He told me to go with him, but I refused."

He gave me a timid look. "Daddy, I trust you."

Children's emotions were always so pure.

Almost tearing up, I choked, "I won't let you down."

I took him in my arms and finally handed him over to Mom after he got sleepy.

"Mom, please watch him for me. I need to leave for a while."
