The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 310

Before I could stop Mom, she stormed toward Henry and slapped him across the face.

Henry's hand flew to his face as he glowered at her. If I weren't around, he would definitely tear her to shreds.

"How dare you!" he bellowed.

"I should've done that ages ago and left you!" Mom fired back.

I hadn't expected Mom to hit him. Given her timid and subservient nature, she always obeyed Henry. This was her first time retaliating against him.

I stepped aside, suddenly eager to see how she would deal with him.

"I said nothing when I found out you had a mistress, and I did nothing when you brought that woman's child back," she shouted. "What else do you want me to do?"

Tears welled up in Mom's eyes. There was only one reason for her outburst—me.

A pang of sorrow struck me. I wanted to comfort her, but she pushed me aside and yelled at Henry, "Look, this is your son—your child! Who else do you expect to care for him when you don't?"

She gave me an aggrieved look, her gaze thick with despair. This was my first time seeing how distraught she looked.

"Mom, enough," I said. "Go inside first."

I was worried that her emotions might overwhelm her, so I wanted to stop her. But she shoved my hand away and stepped forward.

"Are you really going to drive your son to a dead end?" she glowered at Henry. "He left Joplin Group to start over on his own. Not only are you not supporting him as his father, but you're still eager to sabotage him!

"Do you hate us that much? Even if you do, the baby is innocent. You've got to at least care about Lorraine's baby, don't you? It's your grandson, after all!"

The moment Mom said that, I saw Henry's eyes widen.

He gaped at me and sputtered, "Are you saying that Lorraine's pregnant?"
