The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 388

By the time Henry and Chris arrived, the police had already broken down the door. Yolanda was trembling in a corner, curled into a ball as the police surrounded her. When she saw Chris and Henry, Yolanda's first instinct was to glance over at me.

Once she made sure I was still there, she summoned up the courage to point at them and accuse, "It's them! They're the ones who locked me up!"

There were tears all over her face. Even though I had never really interacted with her before, I still felt a pang of pity. I watched as she clung cautiously to the officer's sleeve as she pleaded, "Please, you have to arrest them."

She was only 18. She still wanted to go to university. She didn't want to be exploited like this.

The officer's gaze was sharp as he asked, "Is what she said true?"

Henry was worried that this matter would blow up, so he forced a smile. "How could that be true? She's my daughter. How could I possibly harm my daughter?"

"Then why did you lock her up?" I got up and asked.

I wanted to leave the situation to the police, but it seemed like they were no match for Henry.

"Yolanda has clearly been locked up for a few days. If she's sick, why didn't you take her to a hospital?" I asked.

When I arrived, Yolanda had a vacant look on her face, and her clothes were absolutely filthy. She didn't look like an 18-year-old at all.

I took out a medical report that a doctor had just prepared for Yolanda. "I suspect you're involved in human trafficking. Henry, it looks like you'll have to make a trip to the station."

Henry was dumbfounded. He retreated step by step until he was backed into a corner. He broke out in cold sweat as he said, "Officer, don't listen to him. He's trying to set me up."

"I'd have to be crazy to waste my time trying to set you up." I looked at the officers behind me and motioned for them to act.

Chris quickly stepped in front of Henry. "Officers, you don't understand our family situation. My sister is mentally ill. There was nothing else we could do."

"Is that true?" The officer turned to look at me with a frown, seeking confirmation.

I sneered at Chris, "Why didn't I know she's mentally ill?"
