Just as he was about to brush past Zachary, Ethan lowered his voice on purpose and said, "Zachary, I should thank you. You're the reason Wendy can be together with me without feeling burdened."
Ethan looked smugly at Zachary.
He wanted to see sadness, regret, and rage on Zachary's face. However, to his disappointment, Zachary only laughed carelessly at his provocative comments.
Ethan felt as if his words had had no effect.
He did not stay and instead quickened his footsteps to catch up with Wendy.
Now that the repulsive couple had left, Anya immediately admitted to her mistake. "I'm sorry, Mr. Lloyd. You got slapped for nothing because of me."
Zachary looked at her and smiled wryly. "This doesn't have anything to do with you. You don't have to feel guilty."
When Anya saw that he wasn't angry with her, she couldn't help complaining, "Mr. Lloyd, you're a terrible judge of character! How could you have married a woman as blind and ignorant as Wendy? You actually lived with her for five years! If I had been in your place, I'd have kicked her out ages ago!"
Zachary had nothing to say to Anya's criticisms.
After all, everything she had said was true.
Wendy was ignorant. If she wasn't, how could she not realize that Ethan was approaching her on purpose because he had ulterior motives?
"Mr. Lloyd, why don't you consider me instead? I think that I'm much better than Wendy in all aspects. Besides, I'm very loyal! I'd never get into an ambiguous relationship with men who weren't my husband," Anya said. There was a hopeful light in her pretty eyes.
Zachary reached out to ruffle her hair. He laughed, saying, "I can consider thinking of you as my younger sister."
Anya frowned. "How can being a younger sister compare to being your wife? If you think that things are progressing too quickly, I can be your girlfriend first!"
"Don't be silly! I don't want to be in a relationship right now!" Zachary rejected her ruthlessly.
Anya looked discouraged. She sighed. "Alright, I'll be your younger sister then. As long as I work hard, I'm sure I can get upgraded to being a lover!"
Zachary looked discomfited at Anya's comments.
