Chapter 239 The Call
+5 Pearls
Freya’s body was trembling as the darkness felt overwhelmingly heavy to her. Suddenly, the silence was broken when her phone rang. Her gaze dimmed as soon as she saw who the caller was. So, she switched on the desk lamp and picked up Nathaniel’s video call.
The place Nathaniel was at looked pretty sketchy and it seemed like he was in some sort of red light district. He was calling Freya from a small room. He was wearing a black shirt, and he seemed to have drunk some alcohol. His face looked a little flustered then. However, he was stunned when he saw the shelf behind Freya. He remained silent after that.
After a good long while, he spoke in a hoarse voice. “Did you return home?”
Freya nodded and said, “Yeah, I wanted to look at my father’s books.
Nathaniel took a deep drag from his cigarette before glancing at Freya and extinguishing it. His expression looked complicated. He said, “Oh.” He sounded nervous. He did not like it when Freya recalled her past. That was because if she was unable to break free from her trauma, he would have very little chance of ever getting back together with her sooner. He knew that it was not healthy for anyone to be stuck in the past. So, he nervously asked, “So…. did you return home after you were reminded of the past?” He was puzzled because he knew that she did not want to ever return home.
Somehow, Freya was feeling frustrated as she lowered her head to compose herself. She looked up with a smile and said, “I was having trouble sleeping without you here. So, I decided to get a few books from my father’s study.
Nathaniel started coughing violently as soon as he heard that. His cheeks were even more flustered after that.
He was holding onto his phone as if he had just started dating as he stared at the woman that nearly cost him his life. He guessed that she went back to Killian’s study as soon as she was done with work. Her formal clothes and simple make up only made her look even more attractive. He chuckled and asked, “So.. Do you miss me, darling?”
Freya’s heart raced as soon as he called her darling. That was because it sounded like an insult to her when he called her that after so many years. She did not want Nathaniel to know that she was investigating something. Him being distracted from her sudden appearance back home was perfect for her. Freya lowered her head in silence and this made Nathaniel think that she was just shy, which melted his heart. Suddenly, screams could be heard from the other side of Nathaniel’s
up al room. It sounded like glass bottles shattering on impact. This startled Freya as she looked the screen. She noticed the menacing look on Nathaniel’s face, but he forced a smile and said, “Don’t worry. They’re just drunk. I’ll be back in a few days and I’ll take you somewhere fun then!” He wanted to make it up to Freya, and wanted to spoil her like a child.
Freya nodded and this only made Nathaniel think that she was extremely obedient which melted his heart further. However, there were still things that he needed to do himself then. If it wasn’t for that, he would have already been on his way back home. He said, “I need to go now, Freya. I
