In the capital. Madeline wake up at 8 pm to a quiet winter night. She stretched lazily, feeling warm and comfortable all over. The hot water boule in the bed had long lost in warmth, but someone had taken it out and placed it on the bedside table. 

She went downstairs and save Caleb and Lucas shring on the couch. 

Caleb’s face was cold and expressionless. But Eugene, on the other hand, was gently smiling, resting his chin on his hand. His affectionate eyes quickly fell on Madeline, and he said, “Maddie, I left you some mushroom soup to replenish your energy. 

“Mrs. Ziegler, bring some mushroom soup for Maddie.” He commanded Caleb’s housekeeper naturally, not treating himself as an outsider at all 

Madeline walked over and noticed the two sitting far apart. She cleared her throat and sat between them. Good job‘ She silently gave herself a thumbs–up for her survival instincts. 

However, Caleb and Lucas didn’t let her off the hook. She knew the real test had just begun when she heard Caleb say, “Maddie, here are two gifts for you just choose the one you like.”
