Following Julian’s scent, Lyra found the basement a few minutes later. It was a dank round room solely illuminated by candles.
As soon as Lyra walked into the room, she was welcomed by the sound of clapping. Looking up, she saw Valeria standing on a raised altar in the middle of the room. She was the one clapping, a huge smirk on her lips.
“We are all here,” Valeria said. “Perfect.”
After having her plans thwarted so many times, Valeria had been scrambling to find a way to get rid of the Lycan King and the Luna Queen.
She had not expected that the Rogue King would be such a useless ally. Even after she had helped him steal the Lycan King’s identity and made him powerful talismans, he had failed.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, all her latest experiments failed. After finding out that the Lycan Kingdom had made significant steps in finding a weapon that could easily eliminate corrupted wolves, she had tried to make them stronger.
She had succeeded in making stronger, faster, and more resilient wolves, but they died right afterwards. So she had started capturing magical beasts, but she could not find nearly enough to attack the werewolf kingdom with. But a few days ago, she found an ancient magical artefact.
The artefact was the most potent source of dark magic on earth, and anyone who wielded it would be invincible. However, there was one problem; the artefact had been sealed by a Wolf Mother many centuries ago.
To unseal it, Valeria needed the blood of a Wolf Mother. Once she unsealed the artefact, she would be the most powerful magic user in the world, and there would be nothing the werewolf kingdom could do to protect itself from her.
When she found out that the Lycan King was planning a mission to look for her hideout, she made it easy for them to find her. She had left traces of her energy in the jungle, knowing that Lyra would recognise it. Like she had planned, finally, they had come to her. Now, all she needed was the blood of the Wolf Mother.
“I was wondering when you’d pay me a visit,” she said, taking a few steps down from the altar. The artefact, which was in the form of a lamp, sat on the altar. “I thought I’d have to come to you, but you’ve found your way.”
“We are not here to chat,” Lyra snapped, exchanging a look with Julian. “This is where everything ends.”
