Nicholas froze as the intense fire in his eyes slowly faded. With a wave of his hands, all of the attendants around us immediately left. the luxurious room, leaving the two of us alone.
Once he saw me sign the papers, Nicholas stood up and turned me. around to face him. He looked at me with a dark gaze. Even if both of us were to remain quiet, I felt like our souls were resonating with
each other.
Our souls were tightly intertwined and indiscernible from each other. It was almost as if even after so many years of being with him, despite it being with or without love, we still had a bond between us.
The strong sensation of happiness overwhelmed me as I felt myself. grow dizzy.
He placed his hand on the top of my head and began stroking my hair. “Mrs. Hawk, are you still keeping your hair long for me?”
My lips twitched, not understanding where he was getting at.
“You gave up everything to stay by my side. How could I not treat you well?‘ He stroked my hair softly as his voice was filled with adoration. “Am I such an irresponsible man in your heart?
“I don’t need to hear your answer. You are with me every day as your hair grows longer. Mrs. Hawk, even your hair is living proof of your love for me. You do love me. You can’t trick me.”
He sounded so sure as his voice was filled with confidence. Was that really what Nicholas believed about me?
I knew better than anyone the reason why I had decided to return to his side. It would be a lie if I were to say there weren’t any

calculations on my part. If I were being honest, I felt like I wasn’t as good as I used to be
Just because Nicholas had hurt me I felt justified in deceiving him and playing with his feelings. But now, I only felt ignited by his burning passion.
