"Are my thoughts that easy to guess?" Sylvia mumbled.

"It's written all over your face," Heinz replied solemnly.

Did she think he wouldn't hear her mumbling?

Despondent, Sylvia lowered her eyes and withdrew her hand from her father's leg, not daring to speak despite her frustrations.

Just then, her phone rang.

A chill went down her spine again. It must be Kendrix.

She didn't dare answer it in front of her father for fear that she would give herself away inadvertently if she did so.

Heinz threw a glance at her but didn't say anything. However, his gaze was so intimidating that she didn't dare look straight at him.

The phone was still ringing, and Sylvia was like a cat on a hot tin roof; she wanted to find a chance to slip away.

"Why don't you answer it?" Heinz had to ask, "Or do you prefer that I do it?"

Hearing that, Sylvia became edgier and shook her head quickly. "No, no, I can answer it myself."

With that, she checked her phone to find it was indeed a call from Kendrix.

Although she had her back facing her father, Heinz still managed to catch a glimpse despite her efforts not to let him see the screen.

With a careless sweep with his sharp gaze, he caught the ID, Mr. Trevino.

Huh!

So, it was indeed Kendrix.

He could put a lid on the guessing session now. The girl had snuck out to look for Kendrix.

Heinz blew a fuse and nearly grabbed the phone to warn Kendrix in person.

Sylvia took a gander at her father and happened to meet his sharp gaze, intimidated instantly.

"Dad, can I go upstairs?" Sylvia asked audaciously.

"No," Heinz replied coldly. "Answer the call here. Put him on speaker."

"How about giving me some privacy?" Sylvia was also getting irritated. "Why don't you hurry up and accompany Mommy? Is it interesting to make a fuss with me here?" "Yeah, it's interesting." Heinz shot daggers at her.

"Don't forget that as your father, I have a responsibility toward you."

"But, it doesn't mean you can supervise me at will and show me no respect at all."

"How am I showing you no respect at all?" Heinz asked, "Does forbidding you from dating mean that I don't respect you?"

Sylvia's jaw dropped as she became speechless.

She didn't expect her father to say it out candidly.

"You have nothing more to say now, do you?" Heinz said solemnly, "Your silence also indicates you're feeling guilty."

Sylvia snorted softly and declined the call.

She believed Kendrix could grasp that the current time was inconvenient for her to pick up his call.

Sure enough, he didn't call her again.

However, Heinz's gaze fell even more sharply on his daughter's face. "You're not allowed to date before you come of age."

"I know what I'm doing." Sylvia stood up, staring at her father, and opined seriously, "Maybe you think I'm still young and shouldn't do this and that, but I know what I'm doing."

"If you know what you're doing, you wouldn't have snuck out on New Year's night," Heinz rejoined.

"Dad, I really have trouble communicating with you." Sylvia said, "You're restricting my freedom, and it's school break now. It's reasonable for me to go out. Also, I didn't spend the night outside."

"You even want to spend the night outside?!" Heinz hit the roof hearing that. "Will you only be pleased when you create trouble?"

"What kind of trouble can I create?"

"You're still an underage child; you shouldn't start dating this early. You're too keen on men," Heinz spoke with a tetchy tone.

Sylvia blanched at her father's words. She felt that he didn't, nor could he understand her.

She liked Kendrix. It was an uncontrollable instinct.

It already saddened her to struggle over her instinctive impulses. Furthermore, if she hadn't snuck out, she wouldn't have gotten a boyfriend.

Anyhow, she thought it was worth going out that night.

Even if her father reprimanded and did not understand her, it was still worthwhile.
