Eli thought for a moment. "It's not like that. But I really want him to be my dad. Sometimes, I even feel like he already is."
Dora groaned to herself. Based on all the stories she had read online, this could only mean one thing—her crush might be her cousin!
She froze, horrified. She stared at Eli and said gloomily, "Well, the only thing left is for you to find the right moment to ask my uncle directly about his feelings for your mom and whether he's willing to be your dad."
Eli was so shocked by her suggestion and choked out the words, "Are you serious?"
"Of course." Dora nodded. After all, that was exactly how she introduced her mom to her dad back then. Despite not wanting her crush to end up as her cousin, she still wanted to help Eli.
"Since you're both guys, just go straight to the point," she added.
Eli found it absurd but decided to give it a shot. He planned to ask Gideon himself on the opening day of his mom and Gideon's new company.
Finally, the day arrived. Amedion Accounting Firm officially launched, and Eli took a half-day off from school. Eli took the subway to the company right after class.
By the time he arrived, the opening ceremony was already over. It was lunchtime, and the company was hosting a meal for all new employees and guests at a nearby restaurant. While Amelia and Gideon moved around, making toasts with the guests, Eli waited at the side, watching for an opening to approach Gideon.
"Mr. Everett, can I speak with you privately?" he asked once they had a moment.
Seeing the serious expression on Eli's face, Gideon nodded. "Sure."
The two of them went to the balcony, where Gideon asked, "What's on your mind, Eli?"
Despite having practiced what he wanted to say many times, Eli found himself struggling to speak. He wasn't sure how Dora thought he could ask something like this so easily.
"Is everything okay? Are you feeling unwell?" Gideon asked patiently.
