At the same time, Hera was at the dining table, tasting the freshly made hummingbird cake that Bernard had prepared.
Bernard had expertly balanced the ingredients, and the sweetness level was just right.
The outer layer was chewy, while the inside was crispy and flavorful. It was better than the imported ones he bought.
Hera had always preferred the savory version of these cakes as the sweet ones often had too much sugar. But her opinion changed after tasting his creation.
"How is it?" Bernard leaned on the table, watching Hera take a small bite of the cake.
Hera nodded. "It's good. You could open a restaurant if you ever lose your job."
This was a compliment. His cooking skills were exceptional, making it hard for her to resist.
"I could, but I don't need to wait until I lose my job. I can open one now." Bernard straightened up and adjusted his apron, striking a waiter's pose. "I'd only serve you in my restaurant."
Hera's heart skipped a beat at this, and suddenly, the cake seemed even sweeter.
"How's our new dish, Ms. Youngworth? Is it tasty? Do you like it?" Bernard continued his act.
Hera played along and nodded. "It's delicious. I like it."
"Is it better than the one Thiago's mom made?" Bernard seized the opportunity.
Hera suddenly suspected that all his efforts were just to ask this question.
"Is it that hard to judge?" Bernard cocked a brow when she didn't respond.
