There was a murmuring on the other end of the line that seemed to bother Dorian. His brow furrowed, and he hung up the phone, standing up abruptly. "Something's come up again. I barely got comfortable, and now I have to leave. Let's catch up another day."
"Alright, go take care of what you need to."
"I will. Hey, you finally got through it all, so how about dinner on me sometime to celebrate?"
Finnian nodded, seeing Dorian out before returning to his desk. He couldn't help but think about Dorian and Elysia, which led his thoughts to drift toward his own situation with Amara. A wave of fatigue washed over him, and he pinched the bridge of his nose. He asked his assistant to bring him a cup of coffee before diving back into his work.
The following evening, Amara invited Elysia and Keith over, filling the table with dishes and popping open a bottle of champagne. The three of them cheered, ready to feast.
Amara took a moment to tweet, announcing her newfound single status after her divorce, and then logged off immediately. She didn't bother checking the comments, but she was sure the news would trend. Her divorce only meant Liliana would soon be marrying that high-profile investor, and plenty of people were keeping tabs on the drama.
"Ama, did you tell your dad about the divorce?" Elysia asked.
Amara nodded. "I messaged him around noon. He didn't reply."
"He probably saw it and chose not to respond. Your dad's really old-school, and divorce is like a slap in the face for him. He's probably avoiding you," Elysia commented, pursing her lips.
"Well, if he doesn't want to talk, you do the same," Keith chimed in. "If he is unwilling to look after you, I’ll..."
Before he could finish, a sharp pain shot through his foot, and he yelped.
