When Love Is a Lie (Whitney and Damian) novel Chapter 91

Caleb had returned to the university to conduct an experiment, leaving the group about 10 minutes ago.

Thomas had overheard Yvette mention the tactical arena activity and deliberately led Noel in that direction. His intentions were obvious.

Now he was putting on airs, pretending to be hesitant.

Thomas kept nudging Noel with subtle glances.

After a moment, Noel finally replied as he had seen all of Thomas' signals, "It's been a while since I last played. Guess I could give it a try."

Thomas finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Alright," Yvette said, as she asked someone to bring two more sets of gear.

She then persuaded Whitney to join, so that she could accompany her.

"Alright. But don't blame me if I slow you down," Whitney agreed.

Once they suited up, the staff divided everyone into two teams.

Whitney unexpectedly ended up on the same team as Noel. It seems she wouldn't be holding Yvette back after all.

"I don't want to be on your team!" Yvette protested when she saw Thomas was on her team.

"Who else are you going to team up with? Mr. Howard and Ms. Spencer clearly look like they belong together. Have some sense and don't split them up," Thomas murmured, low enough for only Yvette to hear.

Before Yvette could respond, Thomas quickly announced that he and Noel would be the team captains and started the game.

Thomas was the CEO of the York Group, everyone knew him, and rumors of him being Yvette's fiancé, no one dared object to his decision.

And so, the game began. After nearly an hour, Thomas' team was defeated.

Noel's team emerged victorious.

Yvette angrily tore off her blue armband. "See, I told you I didn't want to be on your team! We lose because of you, and you even shot your own teammates. Are you blind?"

"It was just an accident." He had asked Yvette to stick close, but she had wandered off, choosing instead to stay near another guy.

So, he had taken the opportunity to aim and fire at the guy.

"Three accidents in a row?" Yvette was exasperated.

"There's no rule that says I can only slip up once."

Who told her to repeatedly not listen and insist on following others? xxx

Seeing Yvette puffing up in anger, Thomas then pointed at Whitney and said, "Look at Ms. Spencer, she stuck close to Mr. Howard. If you'd done the same, the game might've ended differently."

Whitney felt a bit awkward at the mention. She recalled how Noel hadn't even glanced her way at the beginning. Determined not to be a burden, she had done her best to keep up with him.

At one point, she noticed an opponent lying in ambush with their sights set on Noel.

Instinctively, she raised her gun to take aim.

Just then, "Bang, bang!" Two shots fired.

When no reply came, Whitney looked up and met with Noel's mocking smile.

"You seem to be in good spirits considering your upcoming marriage to Damian, enough to meddle in others' love lives."

Whitney's expression froze. She had just casually asked, mostly because Yvette was her close friend.

Yet, Noel had jumped at the chance to mock her.

Her smile faded, and she lifted her chin, her tone turned icy. "So, to you, I'm just someone who says one thing and does another, with no right to ask about anyone else?

"Or maybe you think I'm someone who wavers?

"Or even worse, you see me as a spineless person, clinging to a marriage even after being betrayed?"

As she spoke, Whitney's eyes gradually reddened, tinged with a bit of self mockery.

"Yes, I'm just that kind of person. So I deserve to be hurt. So go ahead, mock me all you want."

With that, she turned on her heel and stormed off toward the woods, leaving Noel behind.

Watching her go, Noel felt an inexplicable irritation, her tearful eyes lingering in his mind.

Just then, his phone rang. It was Dariel on the other end.

"Mr. Howard, we found out that Ms. Spencer is being threatened by her father, Westley. He's using her mother's medical treatment as leverage, saying he'll stop if she insists on breaking off the engagement."
