Sherilyn thought to herself, “Of course Jenna matters more than you. How could you ever compete with Jenna, even in the slightest?”
But that was something she could never say out loud...
"Where are you?" Sherilyn bit her lip, trying to soothe him, "Let's meet and talk about it, okay?"
"Where am I?" Gilbert chuckled bitterly in self-mockery, throwing the question back at her, "What do you think?"
They had plans, he was supposed to pick her up from the dance studio.
"I got it." Sherilyn frowned slightly, "I'll come to you right now, can you wait for me, please?"
On the other end, Gilbert gave no clear response.
After hanging up, Sherilyn rushed to the dance studio.
...
When she got there, she could see Gilbert's car right away.
Sherilyn ran over, pulled the passenger side door open – it was unlocked. She bent slightly and sat down inside.
The car's heater was on, making the interior warm and cozy.
Sherilyn caught her breath, pondering over how to navigate through tonight’s predicament.
"Speak."
Suddenly, Gilbert turned to look at her, his gaze falling on her, "Where have you been? What was so important?"
"I..." Sherilyn struggled to find an explanation. "Just something came up with my roommate."
"Really?"
That was her explanation?
Gilbert couldn’t hide his surprise, his eyes filling with disbelief, "Sherilyn, I waited for you all night long, and you stood me up for a roommate?!"
"...Yes." Sherilyn frowned, looking down.
Fair is fair, standing him up was her fault.
Moreover, she couldn’t afford to have a fallout with him right now.
"Gilbert." Sherilyn apologized sincerely, "I'm sorry for breaking our plans, it was my fault... I owe you an apology..."
