"Get out! I told you to get out! Leave..."
"Enough!"
Francis, who had been silent up until now, suddenly roared, his face darkening, "Will you two ever stop? Do you want Gilbert to have no peace even while he's down?"
Francis, known for his calm demeanor, held a presence that when angered, no one dared to challenge.
Instantly, Caroline fell silent, reluctantly letting go of her grip.
Sherilyn let out a cold, mocking laugh, straightening her wrinkled blouse and stepping aside to avoid Caroline, adopting an 'out of sight, out of mind' attitude.
The wait felt endless, dawn was breaking.
Finally, the operation room doors swung open.
"Doctor," Francis stepped forward urgently.
"Mr. Francis," the doctor removed his mask, his expression unreadable, "The surgery was successful, Mr. Gilbert is stable for now."
"For now?"
These words sent a shiver down everyone's spine.
Francis' lips curled into a cold smile, "What do you mean 'for now'? Speak clearly!"
"Yes."
The doctor paused before continuing, "Mr. Francis, Mr. Gilbert was brought in a bit late, missing the optimal window for surgery. For now, let's wait for him to wake up."
That statement made Caroline glare at Sherilyn, the blame in her eyes unmistakable—it was all her fault!
Sherilyn lowered her gaze, remaining silent.
Francis' frown deepened, "When will he wake up?"
"It's hard to say... It could be the next moment, it might take days, or even years, or perhaps..."
The doctor left the sentence unfinished.
But where had Sherilyn heard these words before? The year Francis had his accident, the doctors had said the same thing!
