Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? novel Chapter 835

Gilbert gently placed Sherilyn in the passenger seat of his car and drove back to the hospital. His grip was steady on the steering wheel, but he frequently glanced at Sherilyn, concerned for her well-being.

Sherilyn hadn't been unconscious for long and soon fluttered her eyes open. "You're awake?" Gilbert asked softly, as if afraid his voice might shatter her fragility. "How are you feeling?"

Sherilyn didn't answer; she simply shook her head slightly and turned to look out the window. Tears silently streamed down her face, pulling at Gilbert's heart with invisible strings.

Gilbert swallowed hard, remaining silent, aware that words were inadequate to comfort a mother's aching heart.

Upon arriving at the hospital, he parked the car and moved to lift Sherilyn. "I can walk..." she murmured, refusing his help.

"How can you walk?" Gilbert frowned, his concern visible. "You've just regained consciousness and you're weak. Please, let me carry you."

Despite her protest, Sherilyn lacked the strength to resist, and he carried her back to her room.

Once back in the room, Gilbert gently laid her on the bed, his fingers brushing against her cold cheek. "I'll get a doctor to see you," he assured her before calling for medical assistance.

The doctor examined her and concluded, "Your blood pressure is a bit low, but there's nothing major. Rest will help."

"Thank you," Gilbert replied as the doctor left. He sat by the bed, adjusting the blankets around her. "I know you can't sleep, but at least try to rest your eyes… Jenna will be looking for her mom when she wakes up."

At the mention of Jenna, Sherilyn's heart clenched, and she closed her eyes.
