It was Eddy.
Rebecca White paused for a moment, recalling that she had blocked his number to avoid him, and now it seemed he had switched to a new one. She assumed he must have received the divorce papers.
Getting straight to the point, she asked, \"You got the papers, right? Have you read them?\"
\"Yeah...\" Eddy's voice was a bit muted.
\"Then after you sign, let's set a time to go down to the city hall and finalize this, okay?\"
Rebecca's tone was calm, delivering her words in a straightforward manner.
\"Rebecca,\" Eddy said, calling her by name.
\"Hmm?\"
\"Can we meet first?\"
\"Why?\" Rebecca was surprised, not understanding, \"Is there something wrong with the papers?\"
\"It's...\"
\"What?\" Rebecca was even more astonished, \"I didn't ask for anything...\"
\"It's complicated over the phone.\"
Eddy interrupted her, \"Let's meet and talk.\" He let out a very faint chuckle, \"You're afraid I might get aggressive?\"
\"...\" Rebecca fell silent; indeed, she had that concern.
\"How about this, we meet somewhere public,\" Eddy suggested. \"A crowded place, you can run or call for help anytime, is that okay?\"
Rebecca hesitated for a while but eventually agreed.
\"Fine, I'll choose the place.\"
\"No problem.\"
After hanging up, Rebecca frowned slightly.
Eddy seemed different today. Unusually calm... like the Eddy she first got to know, humble, gentle, emotionally stable.
She shook her head, dismissing the thought, and returned to Sunset Ridge Community.
After taking a shower, she received a message from Eddy. They discussed and decided on a time and place to meet.
