"Huh."
Edgar let out a soft, self-mocking laugh.
"I always thought I was there for you, but the truth is, when you needed me the most, I was either absent or powerless..."
"Edgar!"
Sherilyn's heart skipped a beat, and she interrupted him sharply. "Stop it! It's not your fault. You weren't obligated to help me..."
"Right."
Edgar nodded, his eyes intensely fixed on her.
"That's the thing... It's not my business... Huh, huh."
His laughter was laced with a mix of despair and determination.
"Sherilyn, let me ask you, when everything fell apart, did you think of reaching out to me?"
"..." Sherilyn was momentarily stunned, unable to respond.
"No, right?"
Edgar forced a bitter smile, "When you faced troubles, you never thought of me. What does that tell you?"
It was a hard truth he had to accept.
"It means, in your mind, I'm not someone close enough to rely on!"
"..." Sherilyn was at a loss for words.
She couldn't argue against it.
After everything happened, she had thought of reaching out to her brother Francis, indeed... she never thought of Edgar.
"Edgar."
Sherilyn took a moment to gather her thoughts.
Looking him in the eye, she said, "To me, you are a friend, a good friend."
"I understand." Edgar nodded, "I've put you in a difficult position..."
Sherilyn felt a pang of guilt, her eyes welling up, "Don't say that..."
"Huh." Edgar chuckled softly, then suddenly said, "From now on, I won't make it difficult for you anymore."
"!" Sherilyn was startled, her eyes wide with surprise.
"You heard right."
