Back then, he wasn't into you, but now, it's a whole different story."
"Trust me, Sherilyn, from one guy to another, I can tell. When a man's feelings change, it's like night and day. You've got to feel it too."
Sherilyn froze, her smile lingering awkwardly on her face.
"That's it, then."
Edgar didn't add anything more but spread his arms wide. "I'm heading out. Let's hug it out, because who knows when we'll get another chance."
At his words, Sherilyn, who had just managed to stop her tears, found them flowing once more.
"God, you're such a pain."
"Ha-ha..."
Edgar laughed heartily, took a step forward, and bent down to wrap her tightly in his arms.
In that moment of embrace, his laughter ceased.
Leaning close to her ear, he whispered, "Take good care of yourself... Don't make me regret my decision today."
"Mm..."
With a choked voice, Sherilyn raised her hands to hug him back, reciprocating his embrace.
"I never realized how annoying you were until now. Seriously, you're such a pain."
...
At the hospital room door, Gilbert arrived, ready to enter.
The door swung open from the inside, and Edgar stepped out.
Gilbert paused, remembering, right, Yates was back in town, so of course, Edgar would be too.
"Gilbert." Edgar greeted him with a smile and moved on.
Gilbert was puzzled for a moment. Wasn't Sherilyn with him?
Entering the room, he found Sherilyn on the couch, wiping her eyes with a tissue.
His heart skipped a beat seeing her red eyes. Had she been crying? Because of Edgar?
Sherilyn tossed the tissue into the trash and looked up, "Oh, you're here early today."
"Yeah, came to check on Jenna's test results."
