"Sorry, I had one too many last night and didn't help you with..."
Gilbert trailed off, guiding the person in his arms towards the bathroom.
He reached out to flick on the bathroom light switch on the wall.
As the light illuminated the room, it cast a revealing glow on Karol's face, already pale and rigid with shock.
Stammering, she managed, "Gil, Mr. Harrison..."
In that moment, Gilbert saw clearly too.
He let go of her as if he'd been electrocuted, his brows furrowing in disbelief as he took her in.
A throbbing headache, "How are you here? What are you doing in this place?"
"I..."
Karol shrank back, her hands clenched, a nervous sweat breaking out over her.
What to do? How could she explain?
Recalling the scent of that night...
With a burst of reckless courage, she blurted out, "Mr. Harrison, I've been here all night."
What?
Gilbert was astonished.
All night?
How could that be?
Last night, he was clearly with Sherilyn...
Where had Sherilyn gone?
Gilbert closed his eyes, trying to piece together the night after he had parted ways with Caleb and went looking for Sherilyn.
He vaguely remembered, Sherilyn had brought him home!
He had drunk a bit too much, lost control, and made a move on Sherilyn...
Thinking about it now, something didn't seem right.
He had long desired Sherilyn, losing control wasn't the issue.
But Sherilyn? Had she simply complied with his wishes?
Impossible!
Gilbert's frown deepened, vaguely recalling how he had kissed Sherilyn, and she seemed to push him away, running off.
And then?
Tsk.
