"Jenna! Slow down! Be careful!"
"Hahaha..."
Jenna laughed as she ran ahead, paying no mind to her mom's words. "Haha... Ah..."
The next second, she tumbled to the ground.
"Jenna!"
"I'm okay."
Gilbert followed closely behind, his eyes filled with adoration as he looked at Jenna, "The lawn's soft, you won't get hurt."
Despite saying that, he quickly strode over with his long legs and lifted Jenna into his arms.
"Did you hurt yourself?"
"Not at all!"
Jenna, smiling ear to ear, stretched her little arms wide, "Mr. Gilbert! Such a big lawn! Even bigger than the park!"
Of course.
Sunset Ridge Community was an old neighborhood, and the nearby park was both small and rundown, with hardly any maintenance on the grass.
"Look! Look!"
Jenna pointed excitedly all around, "So many big trees! Pretty flowers! Mr. Gilbert, your house is so big!"
Hearing this, a pang of sadness hit Gilbert, darkening his expression, "Do you like it here, Jenna?"
"Yeah! I love it!"
Gilbert felt even more bittersweet, his Adam's apple bobbing, "This is your home too, Jenna."
Jenna tilted her head, somewhat confused.
Before she could ask, her eyes caught the sight of a slide and swing set not too far away.
"Hahaha..."
She burst into laughter again, "Mr. Gilbert, you're the best!"
"Yes." Gilbert gently patted his daughter's head, "I promised Jenna, and I always keep my promises."
"Mr. Gilbert is so nice!"
Jenna's eyes kept darting towards the slide, "Can I go play now?"
"Of course, you can."
Gilbert nodded with a smile.
"Mommy!"
Jenna immediately ran towards the slide, waving at Sherilyn, "Come on! Mommy, join me!"
"I'm coming!"
