Chapter 43 Asking for Compensation
“What are you doing? Let her go!”
Charlotte stepped forward, trying to push the two bodyguards aside.
Evie met her gaze and immediately shot back, “Arthur, I did it alone. Why bring her into this?”
Charlotte frowned at her words. “What did you do?”
Evie straightened up, defiantly crossing her arms. “I just couldn’t stand him, so I taught him a little lesson. But this guy, he’s so petty and came storming in here to blame me.”

Arthur let out a dry laugh, his eyes cold as he stared at her. “You poured paint all over my car, and now I can’t come to you for a little justice?”
Evie raised an eyebrow. “You? Justice? That’s rich.”
Charlotte blinked, looking a bit lost, before giving Evie a thumbs–up. “Damn, you’ve got guts.”
She turned to Arthur. “Okay, she did it for me. How much damage are we talking about here? I’ll pay you back.”
Arthur replied without missing a beat, “Two hundred million dollars.”
“Wait, what?”

Arthur repeated, “Two hundred million.”
Charlotte whipped around to Evie. “Hold on… How many cars?”
Evie hesitated, her eyes darting around. “Uh, maybe five, six, seven, or eight cars?”
Arthur’s cars were all rare, limited editions, each one worth more than a mansion in the best part of town.
Charlotte had thought she’d just painted one car, but now she was in full–blown shock.
The paint wasn’t easy to fix, and each car would need to be completely repainted. The cost was insane.

Charlotte took a deep breath. “Why so many? One car would’ve been enough for a little revenge.”
Evie bit her lip, her voice a little sheepish. “Well, I was just going to do one. But then, the next day, he switched to an even more expensive one. I got mad, so I… kept going.”
For an entire week, Arthur’s cars changed daily, and so did the colors of the paint.
Charlotte took a moment to collect herself, then flashed a smile and walked over to Arthur.
“Look, Arthur, we’re still technically married. Can we just talk this out?”
