Jeremy paused, remembering the tears Melody had just shed in front of him. The calm he had worked so hard to maintain wavered once again.
Seth was still talking. "You didn't see her, she looked so pitiful—cried her little heart out and bumped straight into my chest. Man, if she weren't your fiancée, I swear I would've played the gentleman and tried to comfort her."
Jeremy's eyes lifted slightly, shooting a cold look at Seth.
Back in school, Seth had a reputation—people said there wasn't a woman he couldn't win over.
Seth knew exactly what Jeremy's glare meant. It was a loud and clear warning.
Guys could always read other guys. And honestly, he hadn't expected this stone-faced man to ever show a flicker of jealousy.
That just made him want to tease Jeremy more. "Come on, Jeremy. She looked so sad. Since she's seeing me for her ear anyway, why not give me her contact info? I could cheer her up a little. I did take psych, you know."
All he got in return was a frosty, "If you're done here, leave."
Seth raised his brows. He remembered when Jeremy had brought Melody in for a check-up, he'd asked for her number, and Jeremy hadn't agreed.
Now, that sharp glint in Seth's eyes said he'd just uncovered something interesting. Still, he didn't push further. He asked a few more questions about his uncle's condition and then left.
Only after Seth was gone did Jeremy's expression darken.
Melody cried. And that one comment from Seth had completely thrown his thoughts into chaos.
What was there to cry about?
…
When Melody went to Alexis for another photo shoot, she received a sample issue from the magazine and was surprised that they'd used her photos for the cover.
She blinked. "It's out already?"
"They were in a bind back then," Alexis explained. "There was something wrong with their own shoot, and they couldn't find the right model or photos, so they rushed to buy your set from me."
She added, "But now that you've done this once, I'm sure more people will want to buy your photos, or ask for shoots directly."
"I won't take other shoots," Melody said.
Alexis looked at her in surprise. "Why not? People will pay good money for direct shoots."
"What about you…"
She was worried Alexis might be upset if she accepted jobs from other photographers. After all, Alexis had been the first to reach out, and she was genuinely grateful.
Alexis quickly caught on and smiled for once. "Don't worry. If someone wants to work with you and you feel like doing it, go for it. If you don't, you can always just be my exclusive model. I won't take it personally.
