Melody froze mid-step.
She turned around and looked at Jeremy. Then, she subtly glanced at Krystal. She was wearing a pair of flats that exposed her red, swollen ankle.
She pursed her lips and asked, "Should I call the orthopaedist over to take a look at your ankle?"
"Don't bother." Laura came out from behind and looked at Melody, saying, "We don't need you worrying about Krys. We'd swung by the orthopedics department already."
Krystal was shooting a promotional video, and as an overwhelmingly loving mother, of course Laura would be here.
Meanwhile, Jeremy was still looking at Melody. "Her ankle had already gotten treated by the time I got there."
Melody slowly blinked, and her breathing became slightly more relaxed.
Was Jeremy explaining himself to her?
Laura didn't care for Melody. She might've kept up appearances in the past because Andrew asked her to, but her own daughter had returned now. So, she no longer had any reason to treat her stepdaughter nicely.
As far as Laura was concerned, Melody had robbed Krystal of the life that was supposed to be hers. To make matters worse, Melody and Jeremy were engaged when it should've been Krystal's engagement!
Laura shot Melody a look and cold said, "Krys doesn't need your concern. Worry about yourself instead." Then, she looked at Jeremy, her tone clearly softening as she said, "Jeremy, you've been a big help today. Krys just came back to Jembina, and she still doesn't know anyone or anything here.
"You're the only friend she has, so I'm going to need you to look after her as much as you can. Think of it as looking after Cheryl's younger sister, okay?"
Laura had brought Cheryl up so unexpectedly that not only was Melody stunned, but Jeremy's eyebrows also furrowed ever so slightly.
Jeremy raised his gaze and looked at Melody. The moment their eyes met, he caught a hint of panic and unease flashing in her eyes.
He fell silent for a moment before turning his gaze away. His tone was the same as usual when he said, "Okay. I will."
