Melody gently said, "I need to hook up an IV drip for a patient." She didn't care to have a private conversation with Andrew. She had a good idea about what he wanted to tell her.
The smile on Andrew's face faded somewhat. "Is that so?" Then, he shot the head nurse a quick, detached look.
She immediately caught his meaning and turned to Melody with a smile. "Melody, I'll help you with it. Go ahead and have a talk with Mr. Wardolf. He's probably busy all the time, and he doesn't come here every day."
Deprived of any excuse, Melody had no choice but to leave with Andrew. He was good at keeping up appearances, so almost everyone else believed that he was a good father.
Once they were somewhere quiet and private, Andrew went straight to the point. "Melody, are you still investigating the case about the orphanages?" He still had a smile on, but it didn't reach his eyes. Instead, it was more of a smug grin with a hint of condescendance.
Melody's heart clenched. She'd talked it over with Denvin, and they'd agreed not to tell another soul about this.
She didn't respond to him, and Andrew didn't want an answer from her either. Instead, he said, "Felicia is looking for leads in every nook and cranny, and Mr. Grant from Celestial Group is deeply troubled by her investigations."
Melody widened her eyes. "What's he going to do to her?"
Andrew calmly said, "You got it the other way around. She's the one who's threatening Mr. Grant." He stared at Melody and spoke no differently from usual, but there was a biting chill in his voice.
"Melody, I'm giving you a heads up because I can't bear the thought of something happening to you. You've always been a bright kid. I don't think I have to keep telling you what you have to do, right?
"Madam Callahan is the best example for you to follow. She got what she wanted because she made the right choice.
"Melody, do you want your own reward? Take your hearing or your marriage with Jeremy, for instance."
…
Melody's heart had never been filled with such intense fear as it was right then. After Andrew left, she immediately gave Felicia a call.
