Denvin lowered his gaze. As he did so, he saw Melody's stiff face and tightly pursed lips.
Jeremy was the calmest person among everyone at the dining table. He calmly looked up and glanced at Krystal. Then, he nonchalantly spoke as Laura looked at him in anticipation, "Krystal is her own person. She's different from Cheryl."
Laura was clearly a little disappointed. "But Krys and Cher are twins. Didn't you recognize her because of their identical appearances?"
Jeremy responded, "A similar appearance doesn't mean anything."
Laura wanted to say something, but Krystal interrupted her, "I'm nobody's replacement. So, what if Cheryl is my elder sister? I'm still a different person."
Krystal sounded so irritated that Laura hurriedly bit her tongue. Then, she explained, "Krys, I didn't mean anything by that. I'm just trying to get Jeremy to look after you.
"You've made up your mind about going back to your department. Andrew and I won't stand in the way of your career.
"Jeremy, I'm going to need you to look after Krys for us. She won't be able to do a lot of things with that ankle of hers, and we're deeply worried about her. You guys share the same office, so it's easier for you to keep an eye on her."
Jeremy nodded in response.
Melody might've been sitting next to him, but she was a little out of it. Every time they had dinner at the Wardolf residence, she could never chime in and have a conversation with them. She could only sit quietly like a bystander.
However, she had taken enough beating that day, and her appetite wasn't big. Shortly after, she made an excuse and wanted to leave.
Jeremy looked at her and emotionlessly asked, "How could you eat so little?"
"I'm a little tired, and I need to rest," she responded.
Laura heard what Melody said and sarcastically chimed in, "All you do is waste your time doing nothing constructive. Are you trying to become an influencer?
"No respectable family in Jembina would let one of their own flaunt their faces for attention."
Laura had always had a sharp tongue. But she was older than Melody, so Melody wasn't allowed to talk back.
