A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 170

Before Melody could stop him, Jeremy had already grabbed hold of the picture frame. His eyebrows furrowed when he saw the hideous mascot costume. He had seen the same bear before.

He had been 16 years old at the time, and it was on Cheryl's death anniversary. He had been in a foul mood as he sat by the side of the road, blanking out.

It'd been a sunny day, and he'd sat there for a long time. He'd earnestly wished that the harsh sun would've chased away the oppressive thoughts in his heart.

At some point, a hideous and silly mascot had walked over and towered over him. Not only was it appalling, but it was very big too. In fact, it was big enough to completely cast a shadow over him.

The bear stood there for a long time, shielding him from the blazing sun.

Later on, Jeremy was worried that the person in the mascot suit might get heatstroke. So, he rose to his feet and went to a convenience store. Then, he returned with two bottles of water and medication, but the bear was nowhere to be seen.

Jeremy held the picture frame and fell silent for a brief moment. He said, "I've seen this bear before. How do you have this picture?"

Melody let out a sigh of relief when he completely missed the fact that he was the small black dot behind the bear. The things she did in the past were quite silly, and the last thing she wanted was for him to find out about it.

She said, "Because it's one of the most hideous bears I've ever seen. It's quite special in that way. So, I took a picture to remember it."

Jeremy put the picture frame on the work desk and emotionlessly said, "It's not that hideous."

Melody asked in embarrassment, "Really?"

The rain outside showed no signs of letting up, and its pitter-patter was as loud as drums.

Inside the room, Jeremy stared at Melody's side profile. Then, he pulled his phone out and placed it on the work desk. He said in a deep voice, "I was at the hospital when you called me. I switched my phone to silent mode, and I didn't check my texts."
