A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 171

Jeremy lowered his gaze and looked at Melody. However, his voice was still cold and aloof. There wasn't a hint of emotion as he said, "I did forget my promise earlier in the evening, and I'll readily apologize for that. But I can't guarantee that I'll reply to your text or return your calls immediately."

It took Melody a while to realize that he was apologizing to her and explaining himself for what had happened in the evening.

She blinked slowly, and her fingers hidden under her shirt twitched slightly. She raised her head and looked at him. "Well, can you reply to my text when you're done with whatever you're doing?"

It wasn't a difficult task, so Jeremy nodded. "Sure."

"Can you let me know if you can't pick me up?" Melody softly asked. "I waited for you for a long time. Alexis might've thought that I lied to her."

Melody had told Alexis that someone would pick her up, but she couldn't even reach Jeremy's phone. It made her feel like a liar who made up stories just to make herself look good.

Jeremy's breath faltered slightly. When he'd gone to the hospital in the evening, he'd been busy dealing with Krystal and the patient. As a result, he had completely forgotten about Melody.

However, upon seeing the tears in her eyes now, he was struck with guilt. Otherwise, he wouldn't have said this much with her.

He nodded and said, "I will."

Melody fell silent for a moment before she lowered her head again and said, "You have to keep your word, okay?"

The rain let up a little and became a drizzle by the time they left the Wardolf residence.

Melody walked behind Jeremy as they went to the door. However, someone tossed a coat over her head, and she could smell the woody scent that lingered on the coat.

Melody grabbed the coat and turned around to find Denvin looking at her. He halfheartedly said, "The rain's heavy. If you get drenched while going out, you're going to catch a cold. The public's going to accuse us of mistreating the adoptive daughter then."

Jeremy's gaze immediately froze when he saw the coat in Melody's hand. He emotionlessly said, "She has her own coat."
